Lets meet with Mst.Sumaiya Akter
This is Sumaiya, an eight-year-and-six-month-old girl with a bright spirit but a difficult journey. She lives with Cerebral Palsy and Speech Delay, conditions that began affecting her just days after birth.
Right after she was born, Sumaiya suffered from convulsions and a severe cold, and soon after, her parents noticed that she wasn’t developing like other babies. She began to crawl at 6 months and learned to sit by her first birthday. At one year and five months, she took her first steps and started saying “father” and “mother.” But since then, her progress has slowed.
Today, Sumaiya cannot walk or talk properly. Her mother shares, "We first realized something was wrong when she was just 2 months old. She seemed different from other children. We visited a doctor, and that’s when we were told she was a special needs child.”
Despite her challenges, Sumaiya tries her best every day. She understands love, she recognizes her family, and she responds to care. But she needs specialized treatment, therapy, and support to grow, to walk, to speak more words, and to live as fully as possible.
Her father, a hardworking man with a low income, does everything he can, but it's not enough. The burden of her treatment is too heavy for the family to carry alone. “We face problems every day,” her mother says with tears in her eyes. “On one side, there’s poverty, and on the other, there’s the cost of caring for her. It’s a constant struggle.”
That’s why they are now turning to the UHCD Foundation and kind-hearted individuals for help. They dream of seeing Sumaiya receive proper medical care, speech therapy, and physiotherapy—treatment that could change her life.
