In the town of Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh, 12-year-old Rumana lives with her family of four, including two loving siblings. Diagnosed with an intellectual disability and speech delay at the age of three, Rumana faces daily challenges with her communication and cognitive abilities.
Despite her condition, Rumana’s spirit shines through her cheerful nature. She enjoys playtime with her siblings, and her curious mind is always eager to learn. However, her family’s financial struggles have become a significant obstacle to her growth.
Her father, a farmer, provides the family’s sole income, which barely covers basic needs. This leaves no room for the speech therapy, cognitive therapy, or regular medical visits that Rumana urgently needs. The family can only afford to visit a doctor once every two years, hindering her progress and access to essential care.
Rumana’s mother dedicates herself entirely to her care, ensuring her comfort and security. But the family dreams of more for Rumana—of opportunities that allow her to overcome her challenges and thrive.
