Lets meet with Shree Bissojit Karmokar
Bissojit is an 18-year-old young man who has faced immense challenges since birth. Born with an intellectual disability and physical disabilities, he is unable to walk, talk, or care for himself in ways most people take for granted. His condition includes a speech delay, which makes it difficult for him to communicate even his most basic needs. On top of that, he suffers from regular, uncontrollable seizures that cause immense distress, further limiting his ability to function.
Growing up, Bissojit’s parents noticed these challenges when he was just a child, but it was only as time went on that they realized how debilitating these conditions would be for him and their family. His inability to speak meant he could not express his feelings, whether he was hungry, in pain, or simply needed comfort. The frequent seizures that left him exhausted and disoriented meant that he could not engage in daily activities or play with his siblings, which was an isolating experience for him.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking aspect of Bissojit's condition is his inability to walk. He is confined to his home, mostly reliant on others for mobility and basic tasks. His life is often spent sitting or lying down, feeling helpless as he watches his family go about their daily routines. This isolation weighs heavily on Bissojit’s spirit, as he yearns to be able to do what others can—work, move, and communicate. His family, despite their best efforts, has struggled to find a solution. His father works as a farmer, but the income is meager and barely enough to meet the family’s basic needs. His mother, who once was a source of emotional support, sadly passed away, leaving Bissojit and his two siblings to rely on each other. The death of his mother left a void in Bissojit’s life, and his father, though loving and hardworking, often has to stretch his energy between working long hours in the fields and caring for his children.
The financial strain is immense. Bissojit’s condition requires frequent medical attention, yet his family cannot afford the treatments that could make a significant difference in his life. The lack of medical intervention has led to a gradual worsening of his condition. The seizures that Bissojit suffers from have become more frequent and more intense, draining him physically and mentally. For Bissojit, each morning is a struggle. His father helps him to get out of bed, but even simple tasks like brushing his teeth or eating require someone’s assistance. His siblings, despite being younger, help when they can, but they too are overwhelmed by their own schoolwork and daily responsibilities. Bissojit’s condition makes it difficult for him to focus on anything outside of his immediate discomforts—his body’s weakness, his inability to communicate, and the constant threat of another seizure.
Despite these immense struggles, Bissojit has an inner strength that is awe-inspiring. Even as his condition worsens, he continues to help around the house in any way he can. He may not be able to work in the fields like his father or siblings, but he offers his support in small ways—whether it’s by sitting with his siblings, comforting them when they are upset, or simply being there for his father. Bissojit wants to contribute, but the limitations of his body make it difficult for him to do so.
The family’s hope for the future is dimming. Every day feels like a struggle, and Bissojit’s health continues to deteriorate without the proper medical attention. His father worries that, without intervention, Bissojit will not be able to live the life he deserves—one that is not dictated by disability and pain. Bissojit’s life has been one of great hardship, but he is a fighter. He wants to live, to experience life in a way that doesn’t revolve around his condition.
This is where your support could make a life-changing difference. By providing Bissojit with the medical care he so desperately needs, you could allow him to lead a better life. Proper treatment could help control his seizures, improve his mobility, and offer him the chance to communicate more effectively. With your help, Bissojit may one day experience the joys of independence—playing with his friends, helping around the house, and perhaps even one day attending school.
Bissojit deserves a chance to experience life beyond the limits of his condition. Your support could help turn his dreams into reality, giving him the health and strength to face each day with hope, not despair. His family is asking for help, not just for medical treatment, but for the opportunity to give their son a future full of possibilities—something that every child deserves.
