Lets meet with Mst. Ashiya Khatun
Meet Ashiya Khatun, a 9-year-old girl with a heart full of dreams and a spirit that refuses to give up despite her challenges. Ashiya has learning disabilities and a hearing impairment, conditions she has faced since birth. Her journey has been filled with struggles, but her resilience shines brightly.
Ashiya’s story began with seizures shortly after birth. Unlike most newborns, she didn’t cry much until seen by a doctor. Following this, she cried excessively and started experiencing various developmental delays. She crawled at 7 months, learned to sit at 1 year and 8 months, began walking at the age of 2, and spoke her first words at 3 years old.
Today, Ashiya faces significant challenges. She cannot walk or talk properly, and her developmental milestones have been hard-won. Her mother recalls noticing differences in Ashiya’s behavior as early as three months old. Concerned, the family sought medical advice, and the doctor confirmed that Ashiya was a special needs child.
Unfortunately, Ashiya’s family struggles financially. Her father, a low-income worker, is unable to afford the medical treatments and therapies she needs. They face daily hardships balancing the cost of living with the expenses of Ashiya’s care. Her mother shares the heartbreak of not being able to take her to a good hospital or consult specialists who could provide better care.
Despite these difficulties, Ashiya’s family remains hopeful. They dream of a day when Ashiya can receive the treatment and support she deserves. With proper medical care, therapies, and education, Ashiya can have a chance to overcome her challenges and lead a more fulfilling life.
